Need help with Skip the Fluff? Start here.
Once a video has been analysed, a short Summary section appears at the top of the Skip the Fluff sidebar, above the segment list. It needs the video's transcript, so videos with no captions won't get a summary. If a summary can't be generated, the timeline and auto-skip still work as normal.
Open the extension popup, type a rule under Custom Skip Rules (for example "skip personal stories") and click Add. You can save up to 5 rules, and they apply to every video you analyse. Matching parts show in violet as "Custom" and are skipped by auto-skip. Real ad reads always stay marked as Sponsor.
Results are cached per video so they load instantly next time. Click "Clear cached video analysis" in the popup, then reload the video to re-analyse it with your current rules.
Skip the Fluff detects music videos and steps aside, since intros and filler don't apply to songs. If it's actually a talk, review or documentary, click "Analyze anyway".
Make sure the video has captions/subtitles or chapters. Skip the Fluff needs one of these to analyze a video.
This means the video has no subtitles and no chapters, so there's nothing yet for the AI to analyze.
Add your own OpenAI API key in the extension settings for unlimited use, or wait until next month for your free quota to reset.
Check that auto-skip is toggled on in the popup, and that the video has already been analyzed (a colored progress bar should be visible on the timeline).
Double-check it's copied correctly with no extra spaces, and confirm your OpenAI account has available credit.
